Program
Intervention strategy and deployment
In order to deploy its adapted housing program on a large scale in Sahelian Africa, AVN has adopted a strategy of disseminating the Nubian Vault concept through partnerships such as Partner Operators (PO). This approach guarantees growing and lasting impact on the territories concerned.
3 program focuses
The AVN program is structured around 3 complementary axes: supply, demand & the environment.
Deployment methodology
AVN operates on three levels
1
Operational Partners (OP)
Mobilization, training and support for local partners so that they can integrate and duplicate the AVN methodology in their areas of intervention, thus multiplying the number of places where the NV technique can be disseminated.
2
Support functions
Training, technical support, monitoring-evaluation and management of a network of partners. These activities enable a sustainable transfer of skills and standardization of practices.
3
AVN's direct role
At the same time, AVN itself continues to operate in certain territories to test new approaches and consolidate the NV dissemination methodology.
Territorial implementation
AVN works at commune and regional level (or cercles, départements, provinces, depending on the country), identifying local organizations (community groups, NGOs, etc.) that include housing issues in their missions. Operational Partners are trained and supported in disseminating the NV technique, with a methodological transfer promoting the development of an autonomous NV market.
Program deployment
The AVN program is currently being rolled out in seven countries in the Sahel region of Africa: Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Benin, Ghana, Mauritania, and Ivory Coast. It is based on several areas of intervention:
-
Raising awareness of the Nubian Vault concept Promoting the technique among local populations and partners.
-
Training in Nubian Vault construction techniques: Training masons, craftsmen, and local stakeholders in this technique.
-
Knowledge transfer: Encouraging local stakeholders to take charge of disseminating the technique.
-
National and international advocacy: Defending and promoting the NV concept at the political and institutional level to make it a recognized sustainable solution.
