Nubian Vault houses are 100% raw earth constructions , a material with no carbon impact and widely available locally. This 3,000-year-old architectural concept uses neither wood, which has become scarce, nor cement or sheet metal, which are imported, expensive, unsuitable, and have a high carbon footprint.
The Nubian Vault eco-construction sector, developed over nearly 25 years by AVN (Association la Voûte Nubienne), is part of a systemic development approach.
Supported by local actors and offering professional training, jobs, and income for rural youth, this sector aims to provide millions of Sahelians currently living under sheet metal roofs with access to decent housing that is adapted to climate change and the local economic context.
